The development of vaccines for COVID19 is progressing across the world with many candidates already in clinical trials. Majority of the COVID19 vaccines under development requires to maintain the cold temperatures during their transportation. Exposure to higher temperatures may lose the potency of these vaccines. Researchers from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and other collaborators from IISER Thiruvananthapuram, THSTI Faridabad, and the IISc-incubated start-up Mynvax have developed a heat-stable vaccine candidate for COVID19. The so called ‘warm vaccine ‘would not require cold chain transportation which is extremely important in the Indian context where the vaccine can be delivered to towns and villages without the requirement of cold temperatures for transportation. The research has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
